The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has issued a stern warning to the federal government, urging it not to underestimate the struggles of Nigerians.
The President-General of the forum, Yerima Shettima, expressed his concerns following the recent increase in fuel prices.
In an interview with the press, Shettima criticized the government for seemingly losing touch with the harsh realities faced by ordinary Nigerians. He lamented that the current administration, which had previously promised to improve living conditions and urged citizens to refrain from protests, has now exacerbated their hardships.
Shettima remarked, “The cost of food is now beyond the reach of the average Nigerian, and it has become evident that the proposed increase in minimum wage to N70,000 is merely a deceit. It is insufficient to support even one individual, let alone a family.”
He urged the federal government to reconsider its approach to the numerous challenges confronting the nation. “President Bola Tinubu must allow Nigerians some relief. The current situation is pushing angry and hungry citizens to their limits, and the response from such frustrated individuals could be unpredictable,” Shettima warned.
He called on the government to fulfill its promises and ensure that Nigerians experience tangible benefits from the ‘renewed hope agenda’ by improving their quality of life. Shettima pointed out that the recent surge in petrol prices has triggered a ripple effect, increasing the costs of food, transportation, and other essential services.
