Paul Ibe, Special Adviser on Media to former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Presidency to provide detailed information about President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to France.
Ibe’s appeal follows a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, which described the visit as a “brief work trip” but lacked specifics regarding its purpose and duration.
Ibe expressed concern over the absence of transparency surrounding the President’s trip, highlighting the need for the public to be informed about the President’s activities, especially when funded by taxpayer money. He emphasized the importance of clear communication, citing the lessons learned from the administration of the late President Musa Yar’Adua.
In a post on X, Ibe requested, “Could you clarify the duration of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to France? Is this engagement open-ended, or is there a set timeframe?”
He also sought more information on the nature of the “brief work” being conducted in France, questioning whether this information is being kept secret.
Ibe stressed that transparency is essential for public trust, stating, “As the President of Nigeria is a public servant funded by national resources, it is crucial that Nigerians are kept informed about his travel plans, objectives, and schedules.”
He concluded, “We hope that, having learned from past experiences, we are committed to maintaining a higher standard of transparency.”
