The Ogun State Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Ayobami Suberu, has refuted an online media report claiming that the results of some public school students were withheld due to the state’s indebtedness to the Council.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to the Ogun State Governor, Suberu dismissed the report as “mischievous and unbalanced.” He emphasized that the Ogun State Government has no outstanding debts with WAEC, clarifying that the delay in releasing the affected students’ results was due to a technical issue that is currently being resolved.

Suberu reassured the public that communication between the branch and the Head of the Test Administration Division of WAEC is ongoing, and that the results are expected to be released by the end of the day.

“The Ogun State Government is not owing WAEC a single kobo,” Suberu stated.

“A senior official from the Ministry of Education contacted me about the report, and I made it clear that the claims of indebtedness are unfounded and misleading. The delay in releasing the results is purely a technical matter, and we are working diligently to resolve it today.”

He also criticized the media outlet for not reaching out to WAEC for verification before publishing the report, labeling the action as unethical. “It’s unfortunate that such a report was published without seeking WAEC’s perspective. The issue is being addressed, and the results will be released shortly,” Suberu concluded.
