The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final voter register for the upcoming Governorship Elections in Edo and Ondo states.

This announcement was made by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in an official statement on Tuesday.

Olumekun disclosed that Edo State has 2,629,025 registered voters, while Ondo State has 2,053,061. The final registers were approved during a commission meeting held in Abuja.

The register includes new voters from the recent Continuous Voter Registration, as well as individuals who transferred their registration from other states to Edo and Ondo.

In Edo State, out of the 2,629,025 registered voters, 1,370,061 (52.11%) are male, and 1,258,964 (47.89%) are female. The youth demographic, aged 18 to 35, comprises 983,133 individuals, making up 37.4% of the electorate. The middle-aged group, aged 36 to 49, consists of 914,806 voters. Together, these two age groups account for 1,897,939 voters, or 72.2% of the total registered voters in Edo.

The occupational breakdown shows that students form the largest group, with 868,764 individuals, representing 33.05% of the electorate. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) total 4,199, which is 0.16% of the voter population. The updated register reflects a 4.9% increase from the 2023 General Elections, which had 2,501,081 voters.

In Ondo State, there are 2,053,061 registered voters. Of these, 1,034,006 (50.36%) are male, and 1,034,964 (47.89%) are female. Youths aged 18 to 35 make up 726,944 voters (35.41%), and the middle-aged group comprises 721,982 voters (35.17%). These two groups combined represent 1,448,926 voters, or 70.57% of the total electorate in Ondo.

Students again form the largest occupational group in Ondo, with 694,938 individuals (33.85%). There are 1,782 PWDs, accounting for 0.09% of the voters. The new register shows a 3.0% increase from the 2023 General Elections, which recorded 1,191,344 voters.

Olumekun stated, “A detailed breakdown of the registers, including information by Local Government Areas, gender, age, occupation, and disability, is available on the INEC website and its social media platforms.” He also mentioned that INEC will soon announce the schedule for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards in both states.
