Organizers of the upcoming nationwide protests have declared their intention to use Eagle Square in Abuja, despite alleged governmental pushback.
Damilare Adenola, the Mobilization Director of the Take It Back Movement, made this clear during an appearance on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics. Adenola revealed that the group had formally requested permission from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to use the venue.
In contrast, during a town hall meeting on Saturday, Wike claimed he first heard about the request via social media. Adenola responded by suggesting that either bureaucratic delays were responsible or the minister was being disingenuous about receiving the letter.
To address any confusion, Adenola promised that another formal request would be submitted on Monday to ensure proper authorization for using the facility.
Nevertheless, Adenola maintained that the protest would proceed at Eagle Square on August 1st, with or without official approval. He emphasized that Eagle Square is a public space and expressed surprise at Wike’s demands for rent and security fees.
“Regardless of the minister’s stance, we will be at Eagle Square on August 1st,” Adenola affirmed.
