The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki following the dismissal of Dr. Samuel Alli as the State Commissioner for Health.

The Director of Publicity Committee for the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, issued a statement in Benin City, describing the dismissal as an acknowledgment of the Obaseki administration’s failures.

Omo-Ojo expressed that Dr. Alli’s dismissal was not unexpected, alleging that Alli had been relegated to a mere supervisory role within the State Ministry of Health. The APC official urged other commissioners to resign and collaborate with their party to build a prosperous state.

“The sacking of Dr. Samuel Alli as Commissioner for Health did not come as a surprise to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, we condemn the scapegoating of Dr. Alli, who Governor Godwin Obaseki had reduced to a mere supervisor in the State Ministry of Health,” Omo-Ojo stated.

He continued, “The fate of Dr. Alli, like that of other commissioners in Obaseki’s administration, is a result of the governor’s preference for consultants, to whom he has essentially leased Edo State, draining its resources.”

Omo-Ojo also criticized the government’s claim that Governor Obaseki is committed to his ‘finishing strong’ objective and will remove any obstacles hindering service delivery in his remaining four months. He labeled this assertion as deceitful and deceptive.

“It’s too late for Obaseki and the PDP to save themselves from the disgrace awaiting them due to their failure to address the basic needs of Edo people, including healthcare, education, food security, infrastructure, and general well-being. There is no magic that Obaseki can use to complete the numerous unfinished projects that now appear abandoned,” he said.

Instead of searching for more scapegoats, the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council called on Governor Obaseki to step aside for a transitional government to halt the state’s decline under his leadership.

“For other commissioners who have become mere spectators in their ministries, the APC Campaign Council urges them to resign and join forces with other patriotic groups to reclaim the state from Obaseki and his consultants, who aim to maintain control through the candidacy of Asue Ighodalo,” Omo-Ojo concluded.
