Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is reportedly under protective custody provided by the current state Governor, Usman Ododo. Sources indicate that Bello has been in the custody of the Kogi state government since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted.
According to Cable News, Bello is receiving protection from state security agents following an unsuccessful attempt by the EFCC to arrest him.
The EFCC had previously issued a Red Notice to Interpol, seeking the arrest of Bello based on a warrant from a federal high court in Abuja. The notice requested Interpol to include Bello on its watchlist in several North African countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria, as well as Egypt, Libya, and Sudan.
The anti-graft agency is considering various strategies to address the situation, including the possibility of raiding the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja, where Bello is believed to be hiding. This comes ahead of the former governor’s scheduled appearance before the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 17th.
