Daniel Bwala, the former spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi Okowa presidential campaign, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is set to reshuffle his cabinet soon.
Bwala’s statement came in response to recent comments by Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Ali Ndume, who criticized the current administration’s handling of security issues and other national concerns.
In a BBC Hausa interview on Wednesday, Ndume highlighted the federal government’s inability to address security challenges, which he described as a significant obstacle. He further pointed out that several ministers are unable to engage directly with President Tinubu to discuss pressing issues.
“The major problem with this government is that its doors are closed, to the extent that even some ministers cannot see the President, not to mention members of the National Assembly, who do not have the opportunity to meet with him and discuss the issues affecting their constituencies,” Ndume stated.
Speaking to reporters at the National Assembly, Ndume also claimed that the president has lost touch with reality, alleging that certain forces have isolated him at Aso Rock.
In response, Bwala issued a press release on Friday, confirming that the current administration’s ministers have undergone an evaluation and that a new lineup of ministers will be announced in the coming weeks. Bwala criticized Ndume for his frequent attacks on President Tinubu’s government, noting that many of the current cabinet members were selected by influential figures like Ndume, as well as governors and party leaders from various states.
Bwala emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining a flexible cabinet, contrasting it with the previous administration under former President Muhammadu Buhari. “Only recently, the assessment of the current crop of Ministers was done. And in a couple of days or weeks from now, President Tinubu would unveil a new cabinet reshufflement. Why cannot Senator Ndume wait till that time to know if he will continue with his wailing and ululation?” Bwala remarked.
He further accused Ndume of being an “overrated political beneficiary” who is still seeking self-discovery.
In May, President Tinubu assured that he would remove any cabinet member who fails to meet the expectations of the Nigerian people. During a meeting with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) leadership at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President reiterated his commitment to serving the nation. “I thank the cabinet members for their efforts, but I will relieve any of them of their duties anytime I feel that they are failing Nigerians,” Tinubu asserted.
