Several corps members deployed in Ekiti State sustained injuries following the collapse of a section of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Ise-Emure, Ekiti.

The incident occurred on Friday morning when the wall of the female hostel’s bathroom caved in while the corps members were preparing to bathe.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the collapse caused panic, but prompt action from those nearby ensured the trapped individuals were quickly retrieved from the rubble. “Thank God, people rushed down there to retrieve them from the rubble. They have been stabilized at the clinic, and they will get further medical treatments,” a source told Daily Trust.

The affected corps members were immediately treated at the camp’s clinic and are expected to receive further medical care as needed. A representative from the NYSC confirmed the incident to journalists, assuring that only a few corps members were involved and that they had received adequate medical attention.

The representative urged parents, guardians, and other concerned parties not to be alarmed, emphasizing that the incident did not have significant adverse effects on the corps members.

Complaints about the substandard facilities at the NYSC camp in Ise-Emure have been ongoing, with many highlighting the lack of sufficient renovations as a contributing factor to such incidents. The NYSC has been called upon to address these issues promptly to prevent future occurrences.
