The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established a disciplinary committee to investigate two of its operatives accused of assaulting a woman during a raid at a hotel in Lagos. This move is part of the commission’s internal oversight system aimed at ensuring accountability and transparency.
In a press release on Monday in Abuja, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the formation of the committee, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to addressing the serious incident. The officers in question were caught on video allegedly assaulting a female employee of the Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos, during an operation last Thursday.
Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, personally directed the establishment of the disciplinary team to probe the conduct of the officers involved. They were ordered to appear before a joint Disciplinary Team comprising the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and the Department of Ethics and Integrity.
“The officers are scheduled to appear before the team on Monday, July 1, at the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission, Abuja. The committee will thoroughly investigate the case and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures,” Oyewale stated.
Olukoyede emphasized the commission’s zero-tolerance stance against unprofessional conduct and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to hold the officers accountable for their actions.
