Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced the release of ₦4.755 billion for various welfare and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of citizens.
In a statement marking the beginning of July as a month of accelerated development, Governor Eno highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between the state leadership and residents to propel Akwa Ibom towards prosperity.
The funds released include ₦2.3 billion allocated for the payment of gratuities to retired civil servants, including primary school teachers and local government workers. Another ₦1.1 billion has been earmarked as a one-off Wardrobe Allowance payment benefiting over 20,000 teachers across primary, secondary, and technical colleges. Additionally, ₦1 billion will be disbursed as bonuses to 52,000 public service workers, consistent with the governor’s commitment to Public Service Week initiatives.
Furthermore, Governor Eno allocated ₦79 million for scholarships to Akwa Ibom indigenes at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria, Kaduna State, and ₦104 million as the first tranche payment for the 2024 primary school teachers’ leave grant. An additional ₦172 million will go towards the severance gratuity of former local government chairmen and vice chairmen who served between 2018 and 2022.
Governor Umo emphasized that these allocations fulfill his campaign promises of improving welfare, education, and skill development in the state. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ongoing initiatives such as Arise Compassionate Homes, palliative care for the elderly, free medical outreach programs, and interest-free loans for traders.
“Our commitment remains steadfast in providing for our people and ensuring progress across all sectors,” Governor Umo stated, urging citizens to maintain focus and unity in building a prosperous Akwa Ibom.
