Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated his readiness to end the ongoing war with Ukraine, according to a report by Reuters. Putin is open to a ceasefire that would acknowledge the current positions held by both sides on the battlefield.
A senior Russian source, who has collaborated closely with Putin and is privy to high-level discussions within the Kremlin, revealed to Reuters, “Putin can fight for as long as it takes, but Putin is also ready for a ceasefire – to freeze the war.”
Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, reiterated this sentiment, emphasizing Putin’s consistent call for dialogue to resolve the conflict. “He has always been very clear that he wanted dialogue to bring the war to an end and that Russia didn’t want an ‘eternal war,” Peskov stated.
The war between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, and has continued unabated, reaching a critical point as of Friday, May 24, 2024.
