Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar played host to former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, on Monday, sparking speculation about a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Obi, who was the flagbearer for the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 general election, met for reasons undisclosed as of the time of filing this report.

It is noteworthy that Obi was previously in the PDP but switched to the LP in the lead-up to the last general elections.

Atiku and Obi were the PDP’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively, in the 2019 elections. However, they went their separate ways in the subsequent election over political interests.

Their latest meeting has generated a variety of reactions on social media, with many speculating that the duo might be planning to form an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 election.

Social media reactions:

@Equityoyo tweeted, “Congregation of Losers, Both as an individual or collectively.”

@RealQueenBee_ tweeted, “Atiku must play the fatherly role now and not allow Wike’s plan to be actualized in 2027.”

@Ollyskay tweeted, “It would be nice if they both collaborate in the coming elections…that’s the only way they can become a real competition to the people presently in power.”

@__Sonofglory tweeted, “If they don’t form an alignment, they can never remove APC in power.”

@jrnaib2 tweeted, “Lesson learnt! United Opposition 2027.”

@MuaMuaNigeria tweeted, “Both of you will never be president of big.”
