The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly condemned the recent decision of the Federal Government to increase electricity tariffs by 300%, labeling it as insensitive and a clear disregard for the struggles of Nigerian citizens.
This criticism was articulated by the party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, in a statement released on Wednesday.
The PRP expressed deep concern over the significant impact the tariff hike would have on the cost of electricity, which is set to surge from N68 to N200 per kilowatt-hour. This move comes amidst a backdrop of other economic challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies and a considerable devaluation of the Naira, resulting in increased living costs and heightened hardship for many Nigerians.
In their statement, the PRP emphasized the burden this tariff hike places on a populace already grappling with survival. They urged the government to reconsider its decision and explore alternative solutions that would not exacerbate the suffering of the people, emphasizing the importance of policies that prioritize the welfare and upliftment of citizens.
