In a devastating turn of events, a 10-year-old boy identified as Israel has been accused of strangling his friend, Ezekiel, to death in the Powerline area of Ejigbo, Lagos State.
According to reports obtained by Punch from a police source, the tragic incident occurred on Friday while the boys, along with others, were engaged in a game of football within the community.
The source revealed that during the course of the match, an argument erupted between Israel and 10-year-old Ezekiel, escalating to a point where Israel allegedly reached for Ezekiel’s neck and strangled him until he lost consciousness and ceased breathing.
Following the harrowing ordeal, Ezekiel was promptly rushed to the General Hospital in Isolo, where medical personnel confirmed his tragic demise.
A statement from the police source recounted, “A report was received at Ejigbo Division on Friday from a complainant that stated that his son, Israel aged 10 was playing football with some boys at Oluwole Street, Powerline Ejigbo, where his mother’s shop is situated when he had an argument with one of the boys named Ezekiel aged 10, who held him on the neck and strangled him until he died.”
In response to the incident, law enforcement authorities dispatched a team of detectives to the scene, where photographic evidence was obtained, and the deceased’s body was transferred to the General Hospital in Isolo for further examination.
Confirming the tragic occurrence, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that Ezekiel’s body has been conveyed to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Additionally, Israel, the alleged perpetrator, is currently in police custody, as investigations into the incident continue to unfold.
