In the wake of a devastating assault in Moscow that resulted in significant loss of life and injuries, the Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Russian Federation.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, expressed Nigeria’s deep sympathy over the tragic incident at the Crocus Concert Hall, where 60 lives were tragically lost.

“We convey our deepest condolences to the people and government of the Russian Federation on the tragic attack carried out at the Crocus Concert Hall in Moscow. The attack resulted in the deaths of innocent people and injuries to more than a hundred others,” stated Tuggar.

He further wished a swift recovery to those injured during the assault, affirming Nigeria’s solidarity during this challenging period. “We also pray for the quick recovery of those injured. At this challenging time, we stand in brotherhood with the government and the Russian Federation,” he added.

The statement concluded with a direct message of condolence to Russian President Vladimir Putin, underlining the bond of sympathy from the Nigerian government and its people towards Russia amidst this tragedy.

ISIS Claims Responsibility for Moscow Attack

Following the tragic events at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, where at least 60 lives were lost and over 145 individuals were injured, the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) has reportedly claimed responsibility for the fatal assault.

Reports from Russian officials indicate that gunmen dressed in camouflage infiltrated a concert venue complex near Moscow on Friday, indiscriminately firing upon unsuspecting citizens.

A viral video footage circulating on social media depicts the extensive complex, which houses both the music hall and a shopping center, engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing into the air.

Russian investigators have confirmed the death toll to be over 60, with health officials stating that 145 people sustained serious injuries. Around 60 of the hospitalized individuals were reported to be in critical condition.

ISIS’s Amaq agency claimed credit for the assault, announcing on Telegram that its operatives entered the concert hall, shooting and injuring numerous individuals before retreating to their base.

The situation is evolving, with authorities in both Nigeria and Russia monitoring developments closely while offering support and solidarity to those affected by this tragic incident.
