In a swift and decisive operation, the Nigerian Army’s forces stationed in 1 Division, Kaduna State, have successfully liberated 16 individuals who fell victim to abduction by violent extremists and terrorists in the region.

The citizens were recently taken hostage from Tantatu, a community nestled within the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during a brazen attack by insurgents who captured several villagers as hostages.

Confirmation of their freedom came via a statement released by the Army headquarters on Monday, detailing the daring rescue mission executed on March 17, 2024, at approximately 10:30 pm. According to the statement, the troops, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly pursued the insurgents.

“On arriving at the scene of the incident, the troops tenaciously pursued the insurgents, engaging them in a ferocious exchange of fire and consequently rescuing 16 kidnapped victims,” the statement read.

The troops, undeterred by the volatile situation, continue to scour the bushes in ongoing search and rescue operations, with the objective of extricating any remaining victims and thwarting the nefarious activities of the insurgents.

Commending the troops for their valorous efforts, Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja stated, “The successful rescue of the kidnap victims is a testament to the dedication and bravery of our troops.” He further instructed them to maintain vigilance and diligence in executing continuous counterinsurgency operations aimed at securing all troubled regions across the nation.

The liberation of these abducted civilians marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism and extremism, underscoring the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of its citizens.
