President Bola Tinubu has presented the 2024 budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the House of Representatives for deliberation and passage.

During the plenary session on Tuesday, the House of Representatives received a letter from President Tinubu, seeking consideration and approval of the FCTA budget. However, specific details regarding the budget estimates were not disclosed in the letter read on the floor of the House.

The letter emphasized the adherence to constitutional provisions, stating, “In line with the provisions of sections 121 and 299 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has prepared the 2024 budget proposal of the FCT which is here before you for the consideration and approval by the National Assembly.”

President Tinubu highlighted that the budget proposal aligns with the fiscal and development policies of the federal government, as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda. Additionally, it takes into account the 2024/2026 economic recovery and growth plan, along with key assumptions in the 2024 budget.

The budget priorities outlined in the proposal focus on enhancing healthcare services, fostering job creation, empowering youth, and increasing productivity in agriculture to alleviate poverty among citizens.

Expressing confidence in the House of Representatives’ consideration, President Tinubu concluded the letter, stating, “I hereby forward the 2024 statutory budget proposal of the FCTA and I trust that it will receive the kind consideration and expeditious approval of the House of Representatives. Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

Following the reading of the letter, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, who presided over the session, directed the request to be forwarded to the Committee on Appropriation for thorough deliberation in preparation for the budget passage.
