Nigerians eagerly anticipate relief promised by the federal government amidst soaring food prices and economic strain. Despite assurances from the Minister of Agriculture earlier this month, citizens have yet to receive the anticipated grains and essential food items.

In a recent statement, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, addressed the delay, citing the ongoing process of bagging grains at seven strategic locations nationwide. Onanuga reassured the public that the grain bags would be provided free of charge, alleviating concerns about additional expenses.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been entrusted with the task of bagging the grains, which are slated for distribution among needy Nigerians in the near future. Additionally, the government plans to supply 60,000 metric tonnes of rice to the populace, further emphasizing its commitment to assisting vulnerable communities.

“The Tinubu administration, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is in the final stages of releasing 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities to support the vulnerable population across the country,” stated Onanuga.

He explained that the delay in distribution was primarily due to the necessity of bagging the grains, as the government had recently procured the bags. However, Onanuga reiterated that Nigerians would not be required to pay for the grain bags, underscoring the government’s dedication to providing assistance during these challenging times.

As citizens eagerly await the arrival of much-needed food aid, the government’s commitment to addressing the economic hardships facing the nation remains a focal point of public attention.
