Residents of Lagos State were captured on camera queuing up to purchase bags of rice that were reportedly available for sale at a discounted price of N10,000 by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).
This development comes after the NCS announced that the distribution of seized food items would commence on Friday, as disclosed by the NCS Comptroller General, Adewale Adeniyi.
In a statement issued to journalists in Lagos, Adeniyi revealed that customs officials would not be directly involved in the distribution process. Instead, the rice would be packaged in 25kg bags and sold for N10,000.
The target groups for the sale included artisans, teachers, nurses, religious bodies, and other Nigerians within the operational areas of the NCS. The aim of this initiative is to establish direct communication with members of these groups to ensure the utmost effectiveness of the distribution.
Adeniyi also cautioned against the resale of food items, emphasizing the NCS’s commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the entire process.
