In a heartbreaking turn of events at the Zoological Garden of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, tragedy struck as Olabode Olawuyi, a dedicated Veterinary Technologist, fell victim to a fatal lion attack on Monday.
The news emerged online with a poignant photo shared by Okunola Segun, a close friend and cousin of the deceased, expressing profound sadness over the sudden and unnatural demise of Olawuyi. Describing him as a loyal family man, Segun mourned the loss and reminisced about their shared memories.
According to reports, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, released a statement confirming the incident. Despite efforts by other staff members to rescue Olawuyi from the lion’s grasp, the severity of the injuries sustained proved fatal.
The university management, through Olarewaju, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Olawuyi and assured them of a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
