Following the escalating insecurity in the nation, the Police Service Commission has appointed new Commissioners of Police (CPs) for several states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ekiti, Benue, Osun, and others. The newly appointed CPs are expected to take on the challenge of addressing the security concerns prevalent in their respective states.
The newly appointed Commissioners of Police are as follows:
- CP Beneth Igwe for the FCT
- CP Peter Ukachi Opara for Osun State
- CP Olugbemiga Emmanuel Adesina for Benue State
- CP Akinwale Kunle Adeniran for Ekiti State
- CP Mohammed Umar Abba for Adamawa State
- CP Abaniwonda Surajudeen Olufemi for Delta State
- CP Ademola Waheed Ayilara for Akwa Ibom State
- CP David Iloyanomon for Taraba State
- CP Abayomi Oladipo Peter for Ondo State
- CP Hassan Abdu Yabnet for Plateau State
In a statement, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, warned the newly appointed commissioners that the Commission would not accept any justification for inadequate or ineffective leadership.
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, reported that a group of mobile police officers demonstrated integrity by rejecting a bribe of N8,500,000 from a suspected kidnapper. The suspect was arrested along the Jalingo-Yola bypass road, and items recovered from him included a substantial amount of cash, phones, recharge cards, and amulets. The suspect attempted to bribe the police officers to release him, but they refused, and the case is currently under investigation.
In addition to these developments, the 144 Battalion (Rear) of 6 Brigade in Jalingo encountered a clash with bandits who had abducted three individuals within the state capital. The situation is being investigated.
