Human Rights Activist Decries FCT Minister’s Inaction Amidst Surging Insecurity in Abuja

Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has strongly criticized the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesome Wike, over the increasing incidents of insecurity, kidnapping, maiming, and killings in Abuja.

In a press statement released to the media, Adeyanju expressed deep concern and outrage at the prevalent cases of violence that have plagued the Federal Capital Territory in recent months.

Adeyanju stated, “The safety and security of citizens should be of utmost priority for any responsible government, yet the FCT Minister, Nyesome Wike, bears a significant responsibility for the escalating insecurity in the capital city.”

The activist condemned what he perceived as a nonchalant attitude displayed by Minister Wike towards the security challenges faced by Abuja residents. Adeyanju accused the minister of neglecting his duty and being more focused on political activities and power struggles in his home state of Rivers.

Highlighting the abrupt displacement of individuals and the destruction of shanties in the FCT, Adeyanju linked these actions to the current state of insecurity. He criticized the minister for not providing adequate alternatives for those affected, exacerbating desperation and criminal activities in the city.

Adeyanju emphasized that the poor, neglected, and marginalized individuals, forced into criminal acts for survival, have created a vicious cycle of crime and victimization. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and hold Minister Nyesome Wike accountable for the security challenges facing the FCT.

The activist urged security agencies to enhance intelligence-gathering capabilities and intensify efforts to make the city safe for all residents. He stressed that protecting citizens should be their primary objective and called for decisive measures to combat criminal elements responsible for the surge in kidnappings and killings.

Adeyanju warned that if the concerns raised in his statement are not promptly addressed, concerned Nigerians will take to the streets in peaceful protests to demand justice and security for all. He emphasized that the lives of innocent citizens are at stake, and their suffering should not go unnoticed or unaddressed.

The statement concludes with a call for Minister Wike to fulfill his duty, and for security agencies to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of the people in Abuja. The residents deserve a safe and secure environment in which to live, work, and thrive.
