In an impressive feat, Sanya Atofarati, a chief from Ekiti and hopeful Guinness World Record (GWR) contender, has successfully completed his challenge for the Longest Marathon Watching Television.
The community leader and creative artist began the ambitious television-watching endeavor on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, concluding it on Monday, January 1, 2024, after achieving the targeted 120 hours in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
The moment of triumph was marked by a glamorous celebration, with a significant turnout of supporters spanning different genders and age groups. The air resonated with songs of victory as Atofarati gracefully concluded the challenging marathon.
Atofarati, who aimed to surpass the existing GWR of 94 hours set by Fragoso, a web developer from New York since 2016, expressed optimism about being certified as the new record holder. He conveyed his hope that, following the verification of his meticulously documented evidence, Guinness World Records would officially recognize his achievement.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Atofarati shared, “We are optimistic about being recognized as the new record holder because all the prescriptions outlined in our Personal Guidelines were meticulously and diligently followed. All our evidence requirements are ready because they were treated in real-time. It will be reviewed and submitted to GWR within the next 72 hours.”
Atofarati’s determination to break the existing record showcased not only his commitment but also the support he garnered from the community. The successful completion of the marathon television-watching challenge marks a remarkable achievement for both Atofarati and the Ekiti community, awaiting the official certification from Guinness World Records.
