Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe of Abia South has expressed his condolences over the passing of the late former Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, describing it as a significant loss to the Southeast.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja by his media adviser, Uchenna Awom, Senator Abaribe acknowledged Ezeife’s fearless advocacy for Igbo interests and his outspoken stance on national issues.
Abaribe, also known as Okwadike, highlighted Ezeife’s commitment to speaking truth to power, emphasizing that the late former governor played a crucial role in shaping national discourse. He praised Ezeife’s panache and candor, noting that his contributions to the socio-political landscape would be sorely missed.
The senator called for calm in response to the Supreme Court’s recent judgment, expressing his sentiments on the denial of the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Abaribe suggested that the release of Kanu would have been a fitting gift for Ezeife.
“Ironically, he died on the eve of a day our brother Nnamdi Kanu was denied release by the Supreme Court. It would have been a fitting gift to him,” Abaribe stated.
The statement reflects the senator’s recognition of Ezeife’s legacy and the interconnectedness of significant events, underscoring the impact of both Ezeife’s death and the Supreme Court decision on the broader regional narrative.
