Faith Nyanchama, a 27-year-old widow, is currently on trial for attempted murder. The charges stem from an incident on December 2, 2023, where she is accused of attempting to kill Filbert Nzoyisaba.
Allegedly, Nzoyisaba broke into Faith’s residence in Nairobi’s Kaloleni Estate at 2 am on the said day. In her statement to the police, Nyanchama explained that she was awakened by a loud noise at the door. Before she could comprehend the situation, Nzoyisaba had gained entry into her house.
Responding to what she perceived as a threat, Faith reportedly stabbed Nzoyisaba twice, targeting his head and abdomen. Subsequently, she discarded the knife and, taking her child with her, rushed to the nearest police station to report the incident.
Faith asserted that Nzoyisaba was a complete stranger, emphasizing the forceful entry into her residence as the reason for her actions. Upon arrival, the police detained Nyanchama when they couldn’t locate the weapon used. Meanwhile, concerned neighbors facilitated Nzoyisaba’s transportation to the nearest hospital.
Nzoyisaba’s brother, arriving at the scene, discovered his injured sibling already at the hospital, subsequently transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment. Faith Nyanchama, denying the charges, appeared before Makadara Law Court principal magistrate Irene Gichobi and was granted release on a cash bail of 300,000 shillings.
As of now, police have been unable to obtain statements from Filbert Nzoyisaba, who remains incapable of providing information. However, images documenting his injuries will serve as exhibits in the ongoing attempted murder trial led by the prosecution. The case is scheduled for a hearing on January 9th, 2024.
