In a decisive move to address issues of indecent dressing within the force, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu, announced the arrest of thirteen officers during a patrol operation conducted by the monitoring unit of the command on December 1, 2023.

CP Disu emphasized that the arrests were part of the ongoing efforts to eradicate indecent dressing among officers within the command. Notably, he stated that the heads of the respective units or divisions where the arrested officers served would also be held accountable for their subordinates’ actions. Presently, the arrested personnel are in detention pending further investigation.

Furthermore, the Commissioner assured the public that the killing of SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ahoada Police Division, would not be overlooked. SP Angbashim was reportedly killed by suspected Iceland cult members led by Gift David, also known as 2Baba.

CP Disu, speaking on a radio program organized by the Force Public Relations department in Abuja, expressed his gratitude for the public’s concern regarding the DPO’s killing. He disclosed ongoing discussions with stakeholders in Ahoada and reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the incident.

Highlighting his objectives for the command, CP Disu emphasized the importance of having effective and friendly police officers. He stressed the necessity of cooperation and partnership with the public for the police to succeed in their duties.

“As Police, we cannot succeed without cooperation and partnership from members of the public,” stated CP Disu, who has initiated efforts to foster a positive relationship between the police and the community.

Addressing security concerns related to the year-end period, the Commissioner assured that security measures were in place to counter any potential increase in criminal activities. CP Disu mentioned the deployment of adequate police personnel to secure entrances and exits in and out of the command, along with meaningful raids on known black spots.

The Commissioner disclosed that routine patrols had recently intercepted a tinted vehicle with four individuals inside. Upon tactical inspection, the occupants fled, leaving behind a fully loaded AK-47 rifle. CP Disu urged the public to report any complaints or issues regarding police conduct through dedicated lines, emphasizing the importance of public engagement in maintaining accountability.

In response to a caller’s complaint about cultism in the Bori axis of Khana LGA, CP Disu pledged to address the issue promptly, indicating his intention to discuss the matter with the officer in charge of the anti-cultism unit to ensure appropriate action.
