The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, has revealed that Nigerians can now expect to receive their passports within three weeks from the day of application submission.
Mrs. Adepoju provided this assurance during a press briefing on Friday at the inauguration of the Igbogbo Passport Front Office in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Addressing reporters, she stated, “I can tell you, barring all technical problems, you should be able to completely apply for your passport and within three weeks, you should be able to get it.” Mrs. Adepoju emphasized the importance of applicants using the same information registered with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) when applying for Nigerian passports.
“People who are applying for our passport must have similar details with which they are applying for the passport on their national identity numbers because the Nigerian passport has the national identity number on it,” she explained. Mrs. Adepoju highlighted that, assuming there are no issues, the entire process—from application to passport production—should be completed within the promised three-week timeframe.
This announcement signifies a streamlined and expedited passport issuance process, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce the waiting period for Nigerians seeking to obtain their passports. The Comptroller-General’s statement underscores the importance of aligning passport application details with the information registered with the National Identity Management Commission.
