President Bola Tinubu has landed in Dubai for the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28) Climate Summit. The President’s arrival in the United Arab Emirates followed his presentation of the 2024 budget to the National Assembly in Abuja.
Scheduled for December 1 and 2, 2023, the COP28 Climate Summit operates under the theme “Unite, Act, and Deliver.” President Tinubu, cognizant of Nigeria’s vulnerability to climate change impacts such as desertification, flooding, erosion, drought, and associated national security risks, is poised to advocate for increased financial and technical support for developing nations. Notably, he will remind developed countries of their commitment to providing $100 billion annually for localized initiatives addressing climate change challenges.
During the summit, President Tinubu is set to deliver a national statement, focusing on key thematic issues, including renewable energy and climate financing. In line with Nigeria’s dedication to sustainable practices, the President will emphasize the need to hold businesses and institutions accountable.
The Nigerian delegation accompanying President Tinubu to COP28 aims to explore new and deeper bilateral partnerships. The focus areas include implementing Nigeria’s Energy Transition, Article 6 Projects, Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), Technology Transfer, Capacity Building, and Methane Mitigation.
In addition to his active participation in key sideline events, President Tinubu intends to leverage the summit to attract foreign direct investment actively.
