Abba Moro, the Senator representing Benue South senatorial district, has been appointed as the Senate Minority Leader. Moro, a two-term Senator from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), assumed the position after being nominated by the opposition party in the red Chamber and subsequently affirmed by the Senate.

His appointment comes as a replacement for Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon, who represented Plateau North Senatorial District but was removed by the Appeal Court. The Senate had earlier designated the Minority leader position to the North Central region, and Senator Mwadkwon, a first-time Senator, was initially nominated by the minority caucus.

Abba Moro, a former Minister of Interior during the administration of ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Elected into the Senate in 2019, he succeeded David Mark, a two-term Senate President and one of Nigeria’s longest-serving Senators.

Aside from his political career, Abba Moro is currently serving as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi. His emergence as the Senate Minority Leader is expected to bring his leadership skills and experience to bear in advancing the goals of the opposition party in the red Chamber.

This development underscores the impact of the recent Appeal Court decision on the composition of leadership positions in the Senate, with Senator Moro now taking on a crucial role in the minority caucus.
