The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has vehemently refuted allegations that he spends N400 million monthly on domestic running costs. These accusations were made by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, during a meeting with party members in Osogbo.
Basiru asserted that Governor Adeleke was unduly influenced by his family, particularly his elder sister, Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, and expressed concerns about the increased state allocations not translating into a corresponding improvement in government service delivery.
In response to these claims, Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the allegations as blatant falsehood, defamatory, and completely lacking in any basis of truth.
Adeleke firmly denied that he withdraws N400 million monthly for domestic running costs from the government’s coffers, characterizing it as a baseless fabrication originating from a bitter former senator.
The Governor emphasized his adherence to due process and compliance with public finance regulations. He further highlighted his decision to forgo the traditional security vote as a deliberate demonstration of his commitment to selfless service to the people of Osun.
He stated, “We are constrained to directly deny the unfounded allegation by a defeated Senator of Osun Central, Mr Ajibola Bashiru that Governor Ademola Adeleke spent N400 million monthly on domestic running costs. If the former Senator truly uttered this blatant falsehood, it is ‘defamatory and reprehensible.’
“There is no iota of truth in the careless and ill-thought-out statement, as the Governor is not drawing any domestic running cost from the government coffers. It is a shameful concoction from a troubled mind who is still bitter about his electoral loss.
“As a man of due process, the Governor operates within the bounds of public finance regulations. He forgoes the usual security vote as a deliberate demonstration of his readiness for selfless service to Osun people. We take a strong exception to the intentional fabrication of lies against a governor whose popularity and performance rating are above 85 per cent.”
