The Canadian High Commission in Abuja has temporarily suspended its operations following a fire incident that occurred at the commission on Monday. As a result, the commission’s premises were vacant, with only security personnel present at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, in the Central Business District of Abuja.
The announcement of the temporary suspension of operations was made via the high commission’s social media handle. The fire had affected a section of the commission, leading to this decision, which encompasses the suspension of visa and immigration services for individuals seeking to visit or relocate to Canada. Additionally, services typically provided to Canadians residing in Nigeria and those in Equatorial Guinea, as well as Sao Tome and Principe, such as adoption and surrogacy, birth abroad, citizenship services, marriage abroad, passport services, notarial services, studying abroad, and visa and immigration services, were also unavailable during this period.
A security operative stationed at the commission’s duty post informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that no staff members were currently available on the premises. He advised that individuals seeking services from the high commission should return on Wednesday, November 8. The commission is expected to address the fire incident and restore its operations as soon as possible.
