Relatives of ‘One Chance’ Victim Denied Care by Abuja Hospital Break Their Silence

The family of the late Greatness Olorunfemi, who tragically passed away last week following an alleged act of negligence at one of Abuja’s general hospitals, has broken their silence.

Rev Dr. Olorunfemi Joseph Olufemi, the grieving father, spoke through the Secretary of Yali Network Nigeria, expressing their overwhelming sadness and the need for privacy during their mourning period.

Greatness Olorunfemi, a member of the Yali Network Nigeria in Abuja, had relocated to the Federal capital from Lagos in search of better opportunities last year. Tragically, she fell victim to an ‘One chance’ vehicle, a term used for criminal activities involving unauthorized public transportation. She did not have any immediate family in Abuja and was the firstborn and primary breadwinner of her family, compounding the family’s grief.

According to Moyosoluwa Oladayo, the secretary who conveyed the family’s sentiments, Greatness’s father arrived in Abuja from Lagos upon hearing the devastating news. The family met with the organization on Thursday at the Mabuchi Police DPO office to discuss the incident. The police had initially wanted to release Greatness’s body to her father, but the situation took a different turn when video and audio clips related to the case began circulating on social media.

FCT Police Command spokesman, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Greatness Olorunfemi’s death. She stated, “We are investigating, Mabuchi Division was in charge of the case, but the Commissioner of Police has directed the DPO to immediately transfer the case to SCID (State Criminal Investigation Department) for a thorough investigation.” The move comes after public outcry and concerns raised on social media about the incident.

As investigations unfold, the family and friends of Greatness Olorunfemi are left mourning the tragic loss of a promising young individual whose life was cut short under distressing circumstances. The incident has also raised questions about public safety and the need for increased vigilance when it comes to unauthorized transportation services, known locally as ‘One chance’ vehicles.
