In a last-ditch effort to avert the looming nationwide strike set for October 3, the Federal Government of Nigeria has summoned an emergency meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and their counterparts from the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).
The meeting is scheduled to take place later this evening in the Conference Room of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President at the Aso Villa.
Originally slated for 12 noon today, the meeting was rescheduled to the evening to allow Organised Labour to coordinate with their leaders from regions outside of Abuja.
Sources have revealed that both the NLC and TUC received the government’s invitation this morning through the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The planned nationwide strike has raised concerns throughout the country, with citizens fearing the potential disruptions it could cause to various sectors.
