The Senate on Monday questioned the O’level results of one of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, Bello Mohammed Goronyo from Sokoto State.
Senator Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East) drew the attention of the lawmakers to the irregularities in Goronyo’s certificates, asking how the nominee used such a result to obtain admission into a university.
Goronyo’s CV showed that he bagged a law degree from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2001. However, his O’level result showed that he had 3 F9s and 2 passes.
In his response, Goronyo explained that he has other results but didn’t add them to his CV. He said that he has passed other secondary school examinations, but didn’t want to attach them because he didn’t think they were relevant.
However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio disagreed with Goronyo, saying that he should have included all of his qualifications in his CV. Akpabio also directed Goronyo to bring the other certificates to the Senate.
The development unsettled Goronyo, who said that he didn’t want to attach the other certificates because he didn’t think they were relevant. However, the Senators disagreed with him, and Akpabio prevented him from answering any further questions.
The Senate is expected to continue questioning Goronyo about his qualifications on Tuesday.
