In the early hours of June 9, 2023, Damilola Adeparusi , a 300-level student of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti state, set out to break Hilda Baci’s 100-hour Cook-A-Thon record for the longest cooking marathon for an individual.
Adeparusi’s world record attempt is coming exactly a month after Hilda Baci set a new world record of longest cooking hours by an individual in May 2023.
Mixed reactions have since trailed Adeparusi’s attempt to set a new world record in cooking with many claiming it was too early for her to be attempting to break Hilda’s record, while some commend her effort.
Although many Nigerians believe she is setting her record against Hilda’s, it is important to note that Hilda Baci’s record has not been verified by the Guinness World Record, so she is currently not the record holder until her record has been certified to have broken Lata Tondon’s 87 hours, 45 minutes cooking marathon record.
Usually, a person has successfully received a Guinness World Record if they have received a certificate, and it’s already three weeks after Hilda broke the record on Monday, May 15, 2023, and she is yet to receive a certification.
Nigerian dancer and Guinness World Record holder for Longest Dance Party, Kaffy, had revealed that during her time, she waited two weeks for the organisation to confirm that she had indeed broken the record. She added that many people might beat the timelines but do not end up getting verified because of technicalities.
