Reactions Trail Justice Tanko Muhammad Resignation As CJN

Reactions have trailed the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The CJN Muhammad resigned from office on Sunday due to health challenge.

According to Channels Television, there are plans to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

This development is coming days after 14 justices of the Supreme Court wrote a letter to the CJN over the decrepit state of affairs in the court.

The judges also accused the CJN of going on foreign trips with his family while denying them the right to go on international training.

Some of the issues raised by the justices include — accommodation, vehicles, electricity tariff, supply of diesel, internet services to justices’ residences, training for justices and epileptic electricity supply to the court.

However, the CJN in a statement issued by his spokesman, Isa Ahuraka, said he did not want to join issues with the justices, adding that the circulation of the letter is akin to “dancing naked at the market square”.

However, some Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the news of the resignation of Justice Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Here are some of the reactions below;

@MgbeahuruRanso1 wrote: “Chief Justice Tanko Muhammad has resigned after being rocked by corruption and misconduct charges from other at least 14 other Supreme Court justices.

@highlandre1 wrote: “The best news today. We need a leader whose associates are confident in, and under whom justice is freely and fairly dispensed.

@chimuan78328458 wrote: “Nice one. This is honourable.”

@iam_wilsons wrote: “Anyone who isn’t healthy enough to occupy the public office should step aside.”

@MooAkee wrote: “Baba needs to take care of his health. He was just waiting for Mary Odili to leave before he resign and retire.”

@chyjyke25 wrote: “I said it. None of them is healthy. Someone that made a candidate that got 4th position in a governorship race winner of the election, can you tell he’s ok medically?”

@NSeljul wrote: “They will act justly ( according to the law) by swearing in the next most snr justice as CJN then change the game after elections.”

@BNwabua wrote: “Omoh dem Dey resign for naija?….this is a juicy development…..weldone justice Tanko….for being honorable at least.”

@Dashinglad1 wrote: “The News shock me… I didn’t know such a thing existed in Nigeria.”
